There have been some recent pictures and news of fishermen catching some nice sized Sheephead fish off the Mount Pleasant Pier. Many of these were featured in the Post and Courier newspaper in the Sunday Wildlife section. The size of these fish bare quite large and congratulations go to the fishermen who snagged them. Sheephead can be a hard fish to catch. Many anglers use fiddler crabs and the old saying is "you have to hook them before they bite" which can be quite difficult. The main reason is the teeth of the Sheephead are more akin to Human teeth than fish teeth.
This gives them the ability to slowly sneak up to the fiddler crab, hold it in place and crack and suck out the crab meat while the fisherman feels hardly anything on the line. The recent catches at the Pier were caught using barnacles, maybe that is a little bit easier to hook the sheephead than fiddlers. Either way it is good to see fish being caught off the Mount Pleasant pier keep up the good fishing
