Mount Pleasant Park Rules Head for Council Vote

A new proposal to limit a varitety of activities at the Town of Mount Pleasant's new Waterfront Park is set to be voted on by Town Council June 9th, 2009. Among the proposals is no revelaingbathing suits, thongs etc, no treasure hunting, bird feeding, and other more or less common sense ways of conducting oneself in public. The Council did leave the opportunity for bands, music, fireworks and alcohol consumption open and allowable if "certain conditions are met". More than likely these conditions are private type admission functions or special events and or other considerations, etc. This is natural for the majority of parks in the Charleston area. The Mount Pleasant Town council appears to be really trying hard to create a great family oriented park that can also be of use for the party hearty on occasions. I am hoping that the council left that area open for some possible party type events at the end of the pier, similiar to the events held at the a Folly Beach pier. What a great attraction for Mount Pleasant it would be to have a band like the Tams or someone similiar playing live at the end of the pier and people of all ages enjoying a friendly night of shagging, even a adult beverage or two. While noone would want that type of event day in and day out, it would be nice to have that option on weekend nights or holidays etc. I am unsure where the 2nd phase of the park stands, along with the amphitheatre. So far, let's applaud the work so far in their regulations, rules and also how rapidly the have developed the park for the grand opening July 3rd 2009. Check back here for more news on the grand opening and also any Town Council actions.
